Everyones body heals differently, you might experience some of these things while your piercing is healing: Swelling, bleeding, bruising, or itching during the first few days. You might also see some whiteish to yellow discharge. All of these things are normal. You can use an icepack wrapped in a clean paper towel to help with swelling and discomfort.
Please remember to come back in 3-4 weeks for a check-up. Most piercings will need to be "downsized" where a piercer will insert a smaller ring or shorter barbell that fits more comfortably. While this second piece of jewelry will be an additional fee, your piercer will be happy to insert it at no additional cost.
Sterile saline should be used to clean your piercing during the majority of the healing time. Spray a small amount of saline directly to the front and back of your piercing 2-4 times a day. Allow the saline to sit for up to 30 seconds, then rinse away with clean water, and thoroughly dry with a clean paper towel or gauze. To avoid drying out your piercing, do not leave the saline on your skin without rinsing and drying.
Always wash your hands before touching your piercing. Your piercer might also suggest a liquid unscented soap for some piercings. Lather a pea sized amount of soap to gently clean around your piercing and exposed jewelry. Do not twist or turn your jewelry or work the soap directly into the piercing. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and pat dry with a clean paper towel or gauze.
Your piercer may suggest a mild, alcohol and fluoride-free mouthwash for some oral piercings. Swish with a small amount of mouthwash after eating, drinking, or smoking. Harsh mouth wash with alcohol or fluoride may cause irritation.
