A Comfortable, Professional Experience With Medusa Piercing in Seattle
A Medusa piercing is when the piercer uses a clamp to insert jewelry, usually a labret stud, above the cupid's bow, or philtrum. Because a Medusa piercing can be slightly uncomfortable due to the high number of nerves in the philtrum, the licensed and experienced piercers at Deep Roots in Seattle prioritize your comfort and safety. We strive to make your experience positive with our clean environment, expertise, and the high-quality materials we use.

Medusa Piercing FAQs
The cost of a Medusa piercing will vary depending on the jewelry you select. During the consultation, our team can walk you through the costs of the piercing and the jewelry options you can choose from.
Every client’s pain tolerance is different. However, the pain is typically moderate and subsides after a few seconds. Initial swelling is also common, but it will go down as the piercing heals.
The piercing requires a longer stud due to swelling that will occur afterward. While the piercing heals, it should be cleaned with a saline solution, and you should avoid spicy foods and moving the jewelry. Typical healing time is about 2-3 months.
The initial stud is usually 8 mm or more long. After 4-8 weeks, it is recommended to downsize the stud to avoid damage to your teeth and gums from rubbing jewelry.
At our U District Studio in Seattle, we can provide philtrum (or Medusa) piercings to clients as young as 16 with a consultation, and on a case-by-case basis.
